How I Installed Hood Pins on My 1991 Civic Sedan
Adding hood pins to my 1991 Civic EF Sedan for safety, style, and that old-school race-car look. Simple mod — big difference.
One of the simplest but most satisfying upgrades you can do to an old-school build is adding hood pins — especially when you’re working with a lightweight Civic from the early ’90s. Today, I’m walking you through how I installed hood pins on my 1991 Honda Civic EF Sedan, and why I think every boosted street car should have them.
The stock latch setup on these older Civics works fine when the car is factory, but once you start running more boost, more vibration, and more speed, the hood latch isn’t always something you want to rely on. For me, this was about safety and function — keeping the hood secure during high-speed pulls and adding a little extra race-car style in the process.
I used a classic stainless steel hood pin kit, drilled clean holes through the hood, lined everything up with the latch points, and made sure both pins sit evenly and lock firmly. The key is taking your time with alignment — once you drill, there’s no going back.
It’s a small upgrade, but one that really transforms the front end. The hood sits tight, and the pins give that old-school performance vibe that fits the Civic perfectly. Simple, clean, and functional — exactly how I like it.
